What is a typeface?
- A set of characters that are designed for a given purpose.
- A particular style of typeface such as bold or italic.
- The two essential characteristics of typefaces are the proportion and the serif (or lack thereof).
- This means text can be:
- proportional serif
- non-proportional serif
- proportional sans-serif
- non-proportional sans-serif
- Italic: a font changes the characteristics of an existing typeface
- Oblique: angles the characters of a typeface to one direction
