The Web
History
Functions
Social Media
- The beginning of the web lies in 1969 when the US department of defense began their ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency) project. This was a tool that would save vital defense information in the case of partial destruction of one or multiple universities it was being held. By the 1980s, this technology became more accessible to those outside the defense community-specifically high level academics. By 1993, the first browser was released to the public for Windows and the Macintosh. With the advent and popularity of Quicktime and the browser-wars, the web has rapidly increased to the popular medium we have come to know today.
Functions
- The web hosts domain names-identification strings that define a realm of administrative autonomy, authority or control within the Internet.
- Servers-computers connected directly to the internet, serve their clients-those computers or devices that are not connected directly.
- These computers are identified by Internet Protocol (IP) addresses-unique strings of numbers separated by periods that identify each computer using the Internet Protocol to communicate over a network.
- All of these above make use of Uniform Resource Locators (URLs )-web addresses that specify a location on a network for the deice trying to access it.
- The Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical and decentralized naming system for computers, services, or other resources connected to the Internet or a private network.
Social Media
- I believe that social media is only meant to do more socializing with less time, space and work, especially those we want to communicate with that are far away. I see it's uses in networking as a music performer, but not as an educator.
- I have a small interest in coding if I am ever in a situation where it would be critical to saving time and energy.
